Oat Scones

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into pieces
  • 3/4 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup dried currants, or chocolate chips
  • 2/3 - 3/4 cup buttermilk

Steps

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, baking soda, baking powder, and cinnamon.
  • Add butter and cut in using a pastry blender until the mixture resembles course crumbs.
  • Stir in oats and currants or chocolate chips.
  • Add buttermilk and stir until the dough just comes together.
  • Transfer to a lightly flowered surface and knead a few times, then pat into a circle. Cut the circle into wedges, and place on a baking sheet.
  • Bake for 15-18 until lightly browned. Transfer to a wire rack to cool.
