Ingredients

  • 330 g (1 3/4 cups) all-purpose flour
  • 67 g (1/3 cup) granulated sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 113 g (8 tablespoons) butter, cold
  • 1-2 cups inclusions, as desired
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 113 to 152 g (1/2 - 1/3 cups) half-and-half, buttermilk, or milk

Steps

  • Mix dry ingredients and cut in butter until coarse with some larger chunks of butter remaining.
  • Stir in the inclusions.
  • Add the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
  • On a lightly floured surface, gently knead the dough until fully mixed (do not over-work)
  • Divide the dough into two rounds and cut into wedges.
  • Brush the tops with egg wash or milk and sprinkle with sugar.
  • Place in the freezer, uncovered, for 30 minutes.
  • Bake at 425 degrees F for 18-23 minutes.
